Joint Scientific Collaboration is opened between the University of Baghdad and Russian Universities

 University of Baghdad is sent a delegation headed by Dr. Nabil Kadhim Abdul Sahib ,Dean of the college of Engineering ,Al- Khwarizmi, Dr. Hamid Rashid Majid of the college of Science as a member to the National Geological University of St. Petersburg / Republic of Federal Russia in order to visit the university and talk about opening prospects of joint scientific cooperation between the University of St. Petersburg and Iraqi universities to exchange experience and the production and investment of mineral wealth. The cultural advisor Assistant Professor Dr. Tu’ma Muttair Hussein received the delegation and after the initial meeting was held in the Department of Cultural Attaché an additional working programme was set up as well as the invitation of the delegation from the National University of metallic materials (mining) in line with the requirements to take advantage of the natural resources in Iraq. The well-known Russian universities have been identified that work in the field of extraction , production and investment of mineral wealth to start a joint programme serves both parties, these universities includ:

      • Moscow State University of Oil and Gas / Kopkin / Moscow .
      • Moscow State University of Mines / Moscow .
      • National University of metallic materials (mining) St. Petersburg – the convener of the delegation

 After official meetings have been held and talks and discussions were held with the heads of universities and deanships and heads of scientific departments of and managers of public relations the two parties confirmed their desire to communicate and get mutual benefit and strengthen the bonds of scientific communication in many scientific and cultural fields, where they reached an agreement with Moscow State University of Oil and Gas / Kopkin and put an action Plan for the Convention of the National State University / mines and an official message was obtained , an action plan was put for an agreement with Moscow State University of Mines which will open Engineering Department of Mines in one of the colleges of Engineering at the University of Baghdad and start the infrastructure configuration programme from human and material requirements , training staff and laboratories as well as the benefit other universities from this experience such as the University of Basra, intending to develop the University of Petroleum and Mines as well as the University of Technology / Department of petroleum Engineering.

After many discussions the delegation comes up with the following recommendations:

      1. Include the Russian universities that were mentioned in the report within the missions programme because of the extreme importance of this specialization in Iraq .
      2. Create Department of Mining Engineering to be initiated as first step as a branch in the Department of Petroleum Engineering and the scientific department will be responsible to develop a scientific study programmes, courses and units.
      3. Joint coordination between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Industry and Minerals / Investment Authority for the purpose of providing scholarship students with proposed projects and facilitate access to the data in the field of mining engineering to serve the practical side in Iraq .
      4. Invite the Russian companies that deal with the above universities and in coordination with the Cultural Counselor / Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Moscow .
      5. Formulate working groups of specialists in mining and oil fields , Geophysics ,Computer Engineering ,Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering who speak Russian to follow-up and implement the terms of the agreement.
      6. Create an Iraqi –Russian company that would be responsible for Investment of mineral resources in Iraq to serve the two parties and to support the Iraqi national economy.
      7. Kopkin University is fully ready to cooperate with Iraq in the Development of the college of oil and gas in various areas, including curriculum and open scientific departments and with full scientific disciplines.
