Pioneer center for cancer research holds a conference on early detection of cancer


Pioneer center for cancer research at University of Baghdad organized in collaboration with the educational oncology hospital, Iraqi cancer board and deanship of the college of medicine a scientific conference on the importance of early detection of cancer in the participation of 115 professors and specialists from medical and nursing colleges. The conference was presided over by Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul Sahib al-Alwan, director of the center, Prof. Dr. Ali al-Shalji dean of the college of medicine and Assistant Prof. Dr. Khudair al-Rawaq (specialist in oncology). The proceedings of the meeting were opened by a speech by Dr. Hassan al-Tamimi, director general of Medical City Hospital who praised the efforts made for establishing such an event to combat cancer. Dr. Sudad, director of the department of scientific affairs at the presidency of University of Baghdad also delivered a speech in which she indicated the humanitarian message of the center to promote public awareness about this fatal disease, training medical staff, publishing sober research on epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Then a film was presented on the celebration of the Arab regional campaign for breast cancer and at the conclusion of the conference Dr. Mervat Hamid from Medical City Hospital talked about her experience in treatment of breast cancer and the psychological and social difficulties she has faced since diagnosis, expressing her thanks and appreciation for the support she received from the center and the specialists there.
