The faculty of sciences for women discusses ways to preserve the Iraqi environment from the industrial waste

The department of chemistry at the faculty of sciences for women at the university of Baghdad held a scientific symposium entitled “industrial Waste Management” to discuss the damage caused by these wastes on the environment of Iraq and the ways to find scientific solutions for them. The symposium included a three themes, the first one dealt with recycling wastes and classifying plastic materials before re-recycling them and Dr. Raad Mahjoob Musleh gave a lecture clarifying how to create a code for recycling plastic materials and the international code for it, the treatment of waste water and its importance for preserving  our rivers. The second theme was with the participation of Dr. Faihaa Miqdad who dealt with water pollution, defining pollutants according to world health organization, its suitability for the environment, how they can be removed or destroyed which will subsequently affect the mechanisms of bio-treatment whether they contain toxic substances and hinted to environmental management and laboratory analyses.  The third theme dealt with the biological treatment of industrial wastes through a lecture by assistant prof. Karima Fadel Ali in which she dealt with the importance of biological treatment of wastes by bacteria, how to stimulating them, the difficulties and obstacles in the management of wastes including air pollutants, mutations in the genes of the bacteria and their role in recycling and genetic engineering. The researcher clarified biological processes that are divided into three phases: filtering solid materials, biological processors and getting rid of bacterial blocs. The symposium included asking questions and discussions with the audience who expressed their interest and appreciation for holding such symposiums that shed light on modern technologies and applying such experiences in their communities for the aim of development and growth. The scientific symposium was attended by the dean of the faculty of science for women, Dr. Ahlam Mohammed Farhan, head of the department of chemistry, Dr. Saadia Ahmad Thahir and a number of instructors and students of the department.
