The medical clinic at the institute of laser for postgraduate studies at the university of Baghdad set about removing (29) tattoos and disease states in different colors and shapes by using the latest medical technologies in the world in line with the slogan “the university in the service of society”. Assistant prof. Dr. Ali Shukur Mahmoud asserted that before using laser in removing tattoo, the surgeons were peeling the skin and removing parts of the surface, but this method left a scar where liquid nitrogen placed on the skin and then freezing it which may lead to peeling the top layer of the skin deeply. The clinics used (second harmonic generation) (ND: YAG) with a wavelength of (532) nm and (ND: YAG) device with a wavelength of (1064) nm. The tattoo is a type of drawing a fixed sign on the skin with a needle, then putting certain dyes within it permanently as a kind of kinds of decoration in some western societies. The history of tattooing go back to several centuries in all parts of the world by using sharp sticks or animal bones. Tattoo in the modern age is considered as a cosmetic technology prevalent among different classes of society and there is an increasing need getting rid of it for social, professional and psychological causes.
