Institute of laser wins the scientific creativity award

The institute of laser for graduate studies at the university of Baghdad won the scientific creativity award for the academic year 2012-2013 for selecting the ph.d thesis entitled ( Terahertz radiation generation by nonlinear interaction of intense laser beam with manetoplasma ) by the researcher Munther Baqir Hassan, instructor in the department of physics at the college of science – university of Kufa as the best ph.d thesis in natural sciences.  This study dealt with the production of THz beam from the nonlinear interaction of laser beam with high intensity and magnetic plasma by approximation of axial beam. The study that was supervised by prof. Dr. Abdu Hadi Mutashar AbId, instructor in the institute of laser at the university of Baghdad, stated that the relative change of electron mass leads to self focus of laser beam when the primary capacity of it is greater than the critical ability and that the change in plasma density and the intensity of the laser will change self focus of laser beam inside the plasma thus changing the intensity of THz beam in both cases of the longitudinal and transverse magnetic field. Also numerical calculations were conducted which showed that self focus and the external magnetic field have a crucial role to improve the intensity of THz beam.
