The college of arts celebrates the centenary of the Iraqi sociologist Ali al-Wardi

The departments of philosophy and history at the college of Arts, university of Baghdad held a symposium to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the prominent Iraqi sociologist prof. Dr. Ali al-Wardi, one of the founders of the department of sociology at the college of Arts in 1954. The dean prof. Dr. Faisal Ghazi participated with a researcher entitled “Ali al-Wardi: a critic of Aristotlian logic”, Dr. Mortatha al-Naqib with a research entitled “Ali al-Wardi and modernization in the Iraqi society”, Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Wahid Mahmoud with a research entitled “Al-Wardi: a sociologist and a historian”. These papers are the same that participated in the international conference held by the American university in Beirut in last February. The symposium was administrated by Dr. Natheer Jabbar Hussein with the attendance of the professors of the department of history and graduate students where the dialogues discussed the role of him and the future of the academic work in Iraq. The symposium lasted for two days where 21 participants representing Iraq, Lebanon, Europe and U.S dealing with his life and scientific achievements in the fields of sociology, philosophy, psychology and history.  The department of history continues to study the role of the intellectual Iraqi elite at the graduate level such as Matti Akrawi, Jafar khasbak, Abdul Aziz al-Douri, Saleh Ahmed al-Ali, Saleh al-Abid to document higher education in Iraq historically.
