The college of education – Ibn Rushd and the threshold of the holy Kazimiyah hold a scientific conference discussing the sustainable environment

The department of geography at the college of education for human sciences – Ibn Rushd at the university of Baghdad, in collaboration with the threshold of the holy Kadhimiya held their scientific conference entitled “development and sustainable environment in Iraq between reality and ambition” under the slogan “for a healthy and a sustainable environment in Iraq”. The dean, prof. Dr. Kazim Karim Rida al-Jabri gave a speech at the opening ceremony welcoming the attendees and expressing delight for holding such a scientific conference in this holy shrine to discuss such an important topic concerning the environment of Iraq that suffered from many vandalism, destruction and pollution because of the unjustifiable wars fought by Iraq which led to the loss of many of Iraqis and damage of its environment due to the pollutants sprung up as a result of military weapons, especially in the desert region, the terrorist bombings and their effects on people and buildings, as well as floods, fires and toxic chemical substances and the decrease of green areas in Baghdad and other provinces that caused a strain on fresh water and sewage. Assistant prof. Dr. Zeinab Wanas al-Hasnawi, head of department of geography  gave a number of proposals during the conference, including the need to activate the legal provisions for the protection of the environment, naming an international day for the environment for holding symposiums about environment, utilizing from the natural resources in a rational manner which is the right of the present and future generations, calling the attention of media organizations to this subject by presenting programs that contribute in achieving this goal. This conference dealt with the innate and eternal relationship between man and environment from which he receives elements of life. The conference was attended by a group of academics and specialists, deputy minister of culture, Iraqi researchers from the university of Amman and members from satellite channels, distributing certificates of appreciation to the participants from the preparatory committees and researchers.
