College of education for women holds a session recalling the great novelist “Gabriel Garcia Marquez”


The department of Arabic Language at the college of education for women, university of Baghdad held it session for recalling the global novelist (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) sponsored by the dean of the college, assistant prof. Dr. Shuruk kazim Salman with the participation of professors and students of the college. This symposium hosted many Iraqi novelists such as Hamid al-Mukhtar, Saad Mohammad Rahim and the storyteller Salah Zangana to deal with the impact of Marquez on reading and writing during the eighties who was one of the Colombian novelists, journalists, publishers and political activists and who contributed in shaping a large part of the Latin American album. The symposium addressed his literary product ranging from stories, novels and compilations as well as other writings most of which deal with topics such as sea, the impact of Caribbean culture and isolation. His novel entitled “one hundred years of solitude” is considered as one of the most important works in the history of the Spanish language according to the fourth international conference of Spanish language held in Cartagena in March 2007, as well as being the most important of Marquez’ works since its great impact on Latin America. The researchers hinted also to other famous works like (no one writes to the colonel), (autumn of the patriarch), (love in the time of cholera). Marquez won the Nobel prize for literature in 1982 for authoring many short stories and five journal works that were combination of fantasy and reality in a quiet world of fruitful imagination fruitful which in turn reflects the lives and the struggles faced by that continent, so this session comes to recall his literary works and their impacts on curriculum. According to studies, Marquez is one of eleven writers who have won the Nobel prize for literature, receiving numerous awards and medals throughout his literary career like “Aztec eagle” medal in 1982, “Romula Jesus” prize in 1972, and the french medal “Legion of Honor” in 1981. The symposium also included signing of a number of novels authored by Hamid al-Mukhtar, Saad Mohammad Rahim and Salah Zangana, then the door was opened for discussion and interventions to enrich the literary aspects of the subject concerned.
