University of Baghdad gains advanced ranks in QS world ranking added to its record


University of Baghdad gained an advanced status in (QS) international universities classification of 2014, reaching 701 – 850 ranks in the same group which included international universities such as Ankara, Coventry, Eastern China, State of Georgia, Ohio, Manchester, Oklahoma, East London, Karachi, Salford, San Francisco and a number of Spanish and French universities. According to this report presented by the reporter of the university of Baghdad media, a large number of international universities couldn’t get any rank within approximately 900 ranks.This is a significant scientific breakthrough achieved by our university, because it was able to keep its position in the ranking for four consecutive years, under intense global competition for tens of thousands of universities that seek to enter such a classification, compared with the enormous funds invested by these universities to improve the teaching and scientific research, infrastructure and their educational facilities, so this achievement deserves recognition and praise in the march of higher education in the new Iraq. It includes more than 3,000 universities, but choosing only 850 universities according to six criteria. The first 400 universities are given a singular arrangement, while the rest are given (400-410) arrangement to above 700. The classification criteria are: 40% for academic reputation, 10% to the reputation of employers (employers of graduates), 20% of the number of research references according to (Scopus) foundation, 20% for the ratio of professors to students, 5% for the number of foreign students and 5% of the number of foreign professors. QS ranking relies primarily on the opinions of tens of thousands of academics around the world. University of Baghdad has obtained this status because of its superiority in the ratio of professors to students, its academic reputation, number of papers published in journals of sober quality, reputation of its graduates and employers, preparation of its curricula and academic programs and its researches publish in journals of impact factor. It is worth mentioned that Massachusetts institute of technology gained the first rank for the third year, while California institute of technology (CALTECH) retained its highest proportion of research citations reaching to the 10th rank, Imperial College increased by 14% by gaining the second rank with the university of Cambridge and Harvard university took the fourth rank followed by Oxford and University College London (UCL). The top 200 university included 31 countries, of which the United States gained the first place for having (51) universities, followed by the United Kingdom having (29) and Germany (13) universities, Netherlands (11) universities, and Canada and Japan (10) universities for each,  Australia (8) universities and Ireland (2) universities. The university of Baghdad hopes to enhance its level in the years ahead in light of higher education that is focused on the quality and the standards of teaching and learning.
