Master thesis in engineering discusses the optimal operating of “Ataturk” Turkish dam

A master thesis was discussed at the college of engineering, university of Baghdad dealing with the methods of operating “Ataturk” Turkish dam, submitted by the researcher (Zina Sami Said) in the department of water resources engineering. The thesis aims at studying Ataturk dam as a case study to predict the effect of the optimal operating of this reservoir from the Turkish point of view on the Euphrates river to the Iraqi-Turkish borders by using two methods of operation: dynamic programming and simulation software to find the optimal monthly operation of this dam through a computer program to find all the monthly optimal release and inventory. The results showed that the amount of storage in April, May, June, July and August is higher compared with the remaining months of the year, due to the increased need for energy in those months in order to increase energy production and reduce the losses, for the purpose of obtaining the optimal operation for 588 months as input data of optimal model, as well as the releases are insufficient to meet all the needs for water since the rate of annual discharge of the Euphrates river to the Syrian-Turkish borders will be decreased to (500 m3/s).
