Minister of higher education opens the second job fair at the university of Baghdad

  Minister of higher education and scientific research, Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani opened the second job fair held by center for rehabilitation and employment at the university of Baghdad in coincidence with the 58th anniversary of the founding of the university which deals with providing employment and training opportunities for students and graduates. Al-Shahristani said in a statement to the media that “this show is a large and a distinctive experience by the university of Baghdad in collaboration with leading institutions and companies of the private sector to promote the economic reality through the creation of a mechanism for cooperation with state institutions and their sectors for the purpose of employment, training and rehabilitation. The minister of higher education praised the efforts made by the presidency of the university and the center for rehabilitation and employment and his team where he considered this job fair as one of the most important achievements in universities, emphasizing on follow-up of graduates, their rehabilitation and employment in the labor market. He added that “we strive through our communication with public and private sectors to find jobs for our students after graduation, which can only be achieved through concerted efforts from all concerned not only the ministry of higher education and scientific research”. Minister of higher education called all companies and institutions from the private sector to provide jobs in all specializations and asserting that the Iraqi economy and the private sector cannot advance unless the discreet companies and institutions invest in its graduates. For his part, the director of the department of studies, planning and follow-up at the university of Baghdad and supervisor on center for rehabilitation and employment, prof. Samer Mubarak that “this fair is the second fair hosted by the center, especially after holding it last year which provided over (250) jobs and (150) work and training opportunities for students and graduates, and it continued its success again this year. On the sidelines of conclusion of this affair, professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein, president of the university of Baghdad presented certificates of appreciation among the participating companies, he thanked them for their invitation and wishing them to provide employment and training opportunities for students and graduates, to benefit from their specializations and experiences they received at the hands of the most qualified professors and the theoretical and practical courses to keep up with international universities. This fair was attended by the director of cultural relations at the American embassy and representatives of (IREX) organization and (Foras) project with the participation of more than (40) discreet local and international companies in Iraq and visited by than (4,000) students and graduates who interacted with the participating companies via filling forms for the purpose of training and employment opportunities.
